Today’s
blog post comes to you from my left hand, as I’ve injured my right one and
currently can’t type with it. I’m not sure what I did—I woke up the other day
and it hurt. It looks like I’m taking a little writing hiatus! I’m not too
bothered. There are a few untouched books on the shelf, and reading always
inspires me anyway.
This
week’s post is my contribution to the Insecure
Writer’s Support Group. IWSG is a group community founded by the wonderfully
supportive Alex J. Cavanaugh.
Its focus is to give writers an outlet within a community that understands
their troubles, fears and doubts. Writers in the group either post about their
woes or, if they have none, actively encourage others and help them through
trying times. Since a.) I already vented last week, and b.) am having type-ical
difficulties, I’m copy/pasting a poem I wrote a while back. I hope it helps you
recognize what great people you all are.
Sensibility
Everyone
is someone in someone else’s eyes.
That’s
why I pride myself in saying you’re a prize!
And
if you don’t feel capable or able to satisfy,
Allow
these rhymes to sway your mind
And
delight in what you find!
To
a someone out there watching, friend,
You
are a mackerel sky.
Floating
aloft, your pinks and golds
Swirl
about and fly
In
a magnificent battle of color,
Each
one trying to shine
The
brightest of them all. My friend:
Amid
this vibrant string of clouds,
You
alone transcend.
To
someone out there listening,
You
are the ebb and tide.
Your
gentle waves awake bare feet,
You,
so blue and green and wide.
And
open to the world, your ears,
They’ll
hear each playful laugh
As
your distant hues reflect rolling hills
Of
happiness relaxed.
To
someone out there with a nose
For
all that’s scented sweet,
You
are the earthen flowers rising
Up
to meet our feet.
You
caress us with your petals,
White
and red and pink and blue.
A
rainbow of perfection,
You’re
the scent that remains true.
To
someone with exceptional taste
You’re
the friend to befriend without haste!
And
keeping in mind touch, as well,
You’re
the someone with a velvet shell.
So
when you’re feeling all alone and
Your
thoughts won’t come to rest,
Just
come back to your senses, friend;
To
someone, you’re the best.
By
the way—thanks for all of the cheering on and support last week. It’s amazing,
how much your kind words cheered me up. You’re a great gang and if there’s ever
anything I can do (even if it’s just listening) you let me know. Stay classy,
blogosphere!
Best,
—R

Hi Randi ... just stopping by to say Hi and loved your poem! I think too often we forget that we are important to the people who matter in life:)
ReplyDeleteHope the hand heals and you can write again!
Thanks so much! Hand is certainly feeling better now :) Glad you liked the poem :D
DeleteRandi, that is really nice! Sorry about your hand. You type well one-handed though.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Alex! And the hand is doing much better now...not sure what happened in the first place but the good news is that its on the mend!
DeleteNice poem. I like the line about the flowers.
ReplyDeleteI hope your hand gets better. A really large 11 year old kicked my thumb in karate class six years ago - it still hurts.
Oh that sucks! A friend of mine hurt his hand during martial arts several years ago and he still can't pull on it in a certain direction. Fortunately mine's doing better...but I'd hate to have an extended injury like that!
DeleteVery nice, Randi!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your hand. Mysterious injuries are sometimes the worst. Hope it gets well soon for you!
Thanks, JW! Feeling better now...not perfect, but good enough to respond to comments, ha! --Randicop :)
DeleteHi Randi. I'm visiting from IWSG.
ReplyDeleteThis piece is beautiful.
I love the way you've incorporated the different senses into this poem.
Hope the hand gets better soon.
Thanks so much, Michelle! Greatly appreciate you stopping by, too :D
DeleteLovely poem! Hope the hand is better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Vik :D
DeleteI hope your hand gets better D: that is quite evil of it to start to hurt like that! Really hope it gets better so you can get back to writing!
ReplyDeleteAnd the poem! Just amazing and beautiful. I think this was one of my favorites. :)
Thanks so much, Paigey! Hand is definitely on the mend. :D
DeleteGreat poem! ^_^
ReplyDeleteHope there's nothing serious going on with that hand!
I've been lurking around the Insecure Writer's Support Group. I haven't taken the plunge and officially decided to participate yet. I like what I read about it. ^_^
Thanks, Krystal! And I say certainly take the plunge. I love the IWSG. The support is lovely and getting things off my chest once a month truly helps. Hope to see a post from you next 1st Wednesday :D
DeleteLove that poem! Thanks for sharing it. Hope your hand is on the mend. Cheers
ReplyDeleteThank you, Clay! It is :D
DeleteLove it, randi. Sorry to hear about your hand! It would take me forever to write even one line if I had to do it with one hand! lol
ReplyDeleteWell...I tend to be a bit, what's the phrase...accident prone, lol. This isn't the first time I've written with one hand before, ha ha. Thanks for stopping by :D
DeleteHi, it's so nice to meet you! I'm a fellow member of the IWSG. :) I love your poem--it's very uplifting and inspiring. I feel really thankful for being introduced to this group by Michael Pierce and thankful for Alex Cavanaugh creating it. I enjoy meeting other authors; well, I'm not one quite yet but am working on it. I'm writing a memoir right now, and then I want to write fiction. I'm a brand new follower and am looking forward to your writing. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jennifer! Thanks for stopping by, for following, and a big howdy ho to a fellow IWSGer! I'm so thankful for it, as well. I'd recommend it to anyone. Thanks for popping in...oh, and you have a new follower, too ;)
DeleteSimply beautiful, Randi! I find your poem comforting and inspiring. :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful and encouraging poem!
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely beautiful poem! Thanks for sharing it--Cheers!
